Summer of 2011 is upon us, and that means it’s the second-to-last summer until the Mayans return to destroy us all! Which makes it a good time to catch up with the Missing Teens and what we’ve been up to.
First of all, The Power of the Crystals, which debuted at the Astoria Brewhouse last October, will be a part of this year’s NYC Fringe Festival. This is a pretty big deal for the Missing Teens and we’re happy as clams about it.
Coinciding with our participation in the Fringe will be the release of the soundtrack CD for The Power of the Crystals. A few months back we tracked bass, drums, guitar and horns at the Kennel in Brooklyn, the session lovingly engineered by our very own James Pertusi. Over the past few months, James Call and DJ Pu Yi have been adding meticulous keyboard tracks and Spencer Chakedis has been stopping by for guitar overdubs, and let’s not forget the trumpet stylings of Mr. Brer Brian. The whole album is sounding WICKED AHHSOME, and we haven’t even cut vocals yet, but we’re doing that Thursday, May 12th. We can’t wait for you guys to hear these tracks, but just hold on to your panties because Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we’re not dropping the tracks until they’re done.
Our summer is a bit light on the shows, although we’ll doubtless be playing out and about in Astoria (the happiest place on Earth, where James, DJ Pu, and Dave Schnug on sax currently reside). In fact, this very Saturday, May 7th, we’re headling a sci-fi show at the Shilllelagh, which is a swell establishment, and on Friday, July 1st, we return at long last to Don Pedro in Brooklyn, with our pals Thunderbang! and Drunken Pumpkin. And then, of course, August 21st, we’ll be playing the huge Astoria Music Now! festival in Astoria Park. More shows may be added – stay tuned!
There’ll also be a podcast coming soon, and there are our various side-projects to consider, including more music with Bird-Ass Productions and Da Spooj.
Y’ALL JUST STAY POSTED NOW, YA HEAR??? YEEEHAWW!!!
